An evidence-informed approach
It’s essential that I provide my clients with personalised treatment based on what science tells us works. Depending on your current concerns, this may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Social Skills Training, Schema Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy and more.
Therapeutic Approach
I aim to tailor my approach to therapy to suit your needs. Therapy provides a space to explore your psychological well-being in a confidential, trauma-informed, and safe environment. Whether you are wishing to learn new skills to manage your psychological well-being, gain treatment for a specific psychological disorder, or simply have a space to talk through difficulties, we will work out a collaborative plan for therapy to meet your needs.
I use a cognitive behavioural approach in therapy, which specifically includes the evidence-based approaches of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Metacognitive Therapy (MCT), Schema Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy.
I do not offer services for the following:
Those under 18 years of age
Family or couples counselling
Forensic/legal cases
Neuropsychological assessment.
Evidence-Based Therapies
Cognitive Behavioural TherapyCognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a well-known evidence-based treatment aimed to engage you with your thoughts and how they can impact your feelings and behaviours. CBT focuses on unhelpful thinking patterns that can lead to avoidance, worry, or maladaptive behaviours. With this treatment modality, you will be able to explore your negative thinking patterns, problem-solve, and ultimately change your responses to difficult situations. CBT is an effective therapy that can be useful in the treatment of a wide range of mental health concerns.
Acceptance and Commitment TherapyAcceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an action-oriented psychotherapy that stems from more traditional cognitive and behavioural style therapies. At its core, ACT allows you to accept that which is beyond your personal control, and take action to improve and enrich your life in key personal ways. This hands-on approach to your treatment allows you to sit more comfortably and deeply with your emotions, accept these as appropriate responses to important situations, and actively change behaviours so that you can live more in line with your values.
Schema TherapyOur, early life experiences can lead us to develop beliefs about ourselves that can impact us throughout our lives. If you hold beliefs about yourself that impact your decisions, the way you view the world, and how interact with other people, Schema Therapy may be for you.
Emotion-Focused TherapyEmotion-focused therapy (EFT) is a therapeutic approach based on the premise that emotions are key to identity. According to EFT, emotions are also a guide for individual choice and decision-making. This type of therapy assumes that lacking emotional awareness or avoiding unpleasant emotions can cause harm. It may render us unable to use the important information emotions provide.
Attachment-Based TherapyAttachment-Based Therapy offers a brief, process-oriented treatment that focuses on developing (or rebuilding) relational trust. It often involves emotional expression in a safe and compassionate environment, repairing negative early attachment experiences, and strengthening your capacity to have secure, rewarding adult relationships. As an evidence-based treatment, it draws on attachment science and can provide intervention to repair early attachment ruptures.
Metacognitive TherapyIn Metacognitive Therapy, we focus initially on illuminating metacognitive beliefs and dysfunctional thinking and behavioural coping strategies. Once you are aware of your metacognitive beliefs and ways of thinking and behaving in response to your difficulties, we spend time teaching you new ways of focusing your attention and new ways of relating to negative thoughts and beliefs, and we work on modifying the metacognitive beliefs that give rise to unhelpful thinking patterns.
